Skin

Life gets trickier when skin is unhappy. Have been spending lots of Internet research in efforts to get smarter. And so this post is to save some of that knowledge.

Skin has an ACID MANTLE. It's pH is at or below 5.5.  Not a lot of info. If you have some, do let me have it.

(All of this was launched with my skin everywhere itching about
10 days ago. Spent nearly an hour at Whole Food's Whole Body section searching. Hoping I've made progress.) Until this weekend, when I tried to share my fun new topic, I had forgotten the horrors of my cracked skin hands long ago. Sweetly, the guy (who became my husband) took up dish washing to help with the cure.

And, in an attempt today to not forfeit my $5 'coupon' from Amazon on my Prime Pantry order - have started again checking this out - this time focusing on laundry detergents. Some findings. List form.

Seems like it is time to eliminate SLS (in addition to triclosans) from what comes in contact with skin.

While sodium lauroyl sarcosinate is a surfactant, it is not SLS. (That web site seems very informative . . .)
Charlie's Soap apparently is mostly washing soda. Some folks find it very helpful with sensitive skin and chemical sensitivities. It seems to work strangely in hard water and works best with hot water.

This 'soap bar' Vanicream has a 5 star rating at Amazon and over 400 reviews. Also comes in a liquid, but that's very expensive on Amazon.

Mustela's baby soap has had a good reputation for sensitive / eczema skin but recent reviews hint the formula has changed.

Better Life dish soap "Dish It Out" is sulfate free and may be good for sensitive skin.

Eco-Me Liquid Laundry Detergent, Fragrance Free (Is 'fragrance free' better than 'unscented'?)

This review on a frequently suggested item by derms for kids suffering with eczema provides so much information.

All Free & Clear is often commented as safe for sensitive skin. Maybe it's free of enzymes?

Formaldehyde is another common ingredient --- safe or not?
